one shots are okay, but i don't want a whole list of one shots, if it's a long read like Nana or Liar Game, I probably can't do more than 40-ish chapters, if it's 23ish page chapters then i can probably do 80ish chapters |

Hello everyone, I was wondering about one specific rule of this challenge: "Ongoing manga can be used as long as you’re up to date with the latest released chapter when you turn in your challenge." So is released chapter something different than translated chapter? In my case I was planning on using Mononofu which has already finished its serialization. But the translating group doesn't cover this manga anymore and there are no alternative translating groups. Is that manga valid for the challenge if I am up to date with the latest translated chapter or not? |

Alright, I've mostly figured out most of what I'm reading and i'm down to 12 more categories(down from 30 two weeks ago). I need just » Read a manga with a protagonist that shares your hair color(brown) » Read a manga that has a main character that is a professional in his field » Read a manga that another user has read for this challenge » Read a Super Powers, Fantasy or Supernatural manga I forgot to say last time but nothing ongoing and something that I could reasonably read in a 5 days. |

@AudioTsunami All these titles are completed and short (Planetes is the longest one with four volumes). » Read a manga with a protagonist that shares your hair color(brown): Pippira Note, heroine in Uzumaki(at least I think they are brown) » Read a manga that has a main character that is a professional in his field: Planetes, Opus » Read a manga that another user has read for this challenge: all manga mentioned in this post except for Uzumaki » Read a Super Powers, Fantasy or Supernatural manga: Suiiki, Majo, Uzumaki |

Hi, I'm here to get a recommendation for: » Read a manga recommended to you by another Manga Reading Challenge participant Preferably a seinen with at least a couple of volumes (but I'm not really picky and will read literally anything someone deems interesting). Must be completed, though. |

All right! I'm finally working on the manga challenge thread again and I'm catching up with the forms that were forgotten there. Hopefully I'll finish that tomorrow. Shey and I are also working on planning the exciting stuff for next year!! Woo! Question: Is there anything in particular you would like to see? Suggestions to improve this event are always encouraged and I also take item suggestions. This doesn't mean that we will definitely use them, but we'll keep them in mind and try to include as many as possible. Also, any other general comment you have about the challenge as an experience that you think needs changed is something you can mention now. I would appreciate anyone's answers to this question or any suggestions given! |

So it's this time of the year again it seems, tsuyokunaru ^^ Well I wanted to ask first, do you think you're going to create a specific " 2017 manga reading challenge - planning thread" , like last year ? I say that because I remember we had some very interesting debate with it, and I think it was really cool and helpful. Other than that, I had an overall very nice experience with the challenge this year. The hard challenge was actually hard, so it feel like the 20/35/50 difficulty levels were effective and relevant. - Personaly, the "Read a manga that is tagged with a genre you dislike" was pretty painful to do for me ^^ . Since, if I wanted to be honest (and I tried to), I could only go with a "harem" manga and, because of that, it was extremely hard to find one that could even start to seems interesting to me.. and in the end, I had to read something I didn't liked, as expected. So... I know that the idea is to go out of the comfort zone for this item, but my guess is that simple items like "Read a Sports, Martial Arts, Cars or Games manga" would already work like that for some people. ^^ So maybe it's not need ? I don't know. - Right now, I'm looking at the challenge list we had for the 2015 challenge, and I think the "Read a manga by Osamu Tezuka" had something interesting to it, in that it was pushing the idea of reading some "classic" manga, and works that were impactful in the history of the medium. - with a similar idea, I would really like to see a new item in that same trend that would aim to make people explore some important historical movement of the medium. For exemple, maybe something like "read a Year 24 Group or Gekiga manga" could be nice. And there would be some links for specific clubs to help users find manga for it (Year 24 / Gekiga). - I think a bonus item that would say "Read a manga that don't have any review yet, and make one for it" could be very interesting. Since it would be a bonus, it wouldn't be a problem to avoid it, but on the other hand, it would be an interesting exercice for people that are up to it. Well that's just random thoughts, maybe I'll have more another day. |

phone post I agree the levels to match the anime challenge was cool, but 50 (especially for some who had only completed 60 manga prior) seemed like a tremendous feat, and even 43 entries in, I just barely put myself within striking distance of finishing this thing despite procrastinating all year. I'm not as gung-ho about lowering it like last year(because of how badly I procrastinated) but damn man, 50 is sooooo much. I don't particularly mind the dislike genre one. I used malgraph to determine what my lowest scores were and just read something short that fit a couple of those genres. I didn't like it that much, but 17 chapters isn't that bad to suffer through and I feel like this is the least offender in the "I have to suffer through something a hate" category. The most being if you only used one spin on the random challenges, like I suffered through trash like Grenadier and Sola and while I didn't "have to" and it wasn't guaranteed, I had less control where as with the dislike genre challenge you can handpick something that is gonna be as painless as possible. Even a 1 shot if you need to. It is a "challenge" though, so I think having to trudge through the undesirable is part of the game. I was sad to see the Tezuka challenge go last year but after doing a challenge without it, I don't miss it. I think the reasoning from it being taken down last year was spot on and I didn't miss individual spotlights. I like the 0 reviews as a bonus. |

@Dullboy @AudioTsunami Thank you for your responses! No, this year there won't be a discussion thread because we might change the challenge quite a bit. We're waiting on green light from the higher ups right now before deciding. We once again want to have more participation from the users in getting item ideas though. Last night Shey decided to set up a google forms survey which people can fill out in order to contribute. I'm glad that you guys found the challenge enjoyable this year as well. I've also had trouble with the size of the hard difficulty, but it's been fun as well. I definitely think we should have something to include more of classic manga and although we tried this year by including things from before the 80s and so on, I will definitely consider using the Year 24 group next year. If you guys want to fill out the survey, I invite you and any other user. The link is below: https://goo.gl/forms/lHgTKzkYtNR7LcYw2 |

i've finally finished the manga challenge^^ do we get a message if the challenge has been "accepted/denied"? if there is something wrong i'd like to know it as fast a possible since it's not much time left this year (work, school, pokémon, holidays, ...). furthermore it wouldn't feel right to use a new banner if i'm not really done |

@Simar I checked your list unofficially and found some stuff » Read an award-winning work: Sayonara Sorcier: Not sure if this qualifies as an award. Baka-Updates has it listed as award-winning but idk. Like if Pitchfork says something is number 1; it doesn't have the same rate as a grammy so idk why this list would count as an award. » Read a manga by an author/artist you don't know: Kuro: Baka-updates has it finished and completely translated at ~190 chapters, you've only read 16. I'm also not exactly sure why MAl only has 22 chapters listed. » Read a manga with a non-human main character: Somali to Mori no Kamisama: has no main characters listed thus can not be used for this challenge » Read a manga with an archetype as a main character: Maou no Hajimekata: The Comic: which character, what archtypes » Read a manga that has been on your Plan to Read list for too long: Akatsuki no Yona: Baka updates has it at 132 chapters, you're listed at reading 11. |

Oh man, I really liked music of Marie when I read it last year. That's pretty good for something short. Oyaji and All you Need Is Kill are also p good 1 sitting reads. I'm finishing up Natsu no Zenjitsu right now and it's the most realistic romance I've ever read. It's really good and I can empathize well with both main characters. |

I was thinking about doing the 300+ chapter ongoing bonus, can anyone give me a least of the ones available? I can't use Berserk, Vagabond, or HxH. Aside from that I only have 4 of the Bonus ones left and only 1 regular challenge category left. I'd like to thank the people that gave me recommendations, I might post a big review post like Dullboy, but I want to be all the way finished with the challenge before doing so. |
